Hello DWC members & friends, Equal Ground invites you to celebrate one step toward victory against FL’s racist redistricting. To sign on to tomorrow’s forum, text FAIRDISTRICTS to 52886 or click https://mobilize.us/equalground/event/573407”Today the legal challenge against Florida’s congressional map in Black Voters Matter Capacity Building Institute v. Byrd was significantly strengthened as a result of an agreement between the parties.
[In the agreement] FL’s Secretary of State, the FL House of Representatives, and the FL Senate have admitted that the state’s congressional map diminishes the voting power of Black Floridians and prevents them from electing a candidate of their choice in Florida’s 5th Congressional District.
In doing so, this admission supports the plaintiffs’ argument that FL’s congressional map violates Article III, § 20 of the Florida Constitution known as the Fair Districts Amendment…today’s agreement states that if the plaintiffs prevail, a new remedial plan will be in place in time for the 2024 primary elections.” |
